Role Summary

The Claims Manager will oversee a team of specialists to facilitate operational functions for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The primary responsibilities for this position encompass:

  • Engaging in daily operations with the NFIP Claims division
  • Coordinating with insurers and vendors on behalf of FEMA
  • Providing expertise during NFIP meetings, communications, and outreach initiatives
  • Identifying potential risks and issues proactively and documenting them accordingly
  • Managing all assigned risks, issues, mitigation strategies, and action items
  • Delivering status updates and highlighting obstacles during Daily Stand Up meetings
  • Advocating for process and system improvements to enhance stakeholder engagement for NFIP
  • Ensuring timely submission of contract deliverables
  • Overseeing project timelines to guarantee the punctuality of contract and additional deliverables, work products, SLAs, tasks, and disaster response activities
Team Leadership Responsibilities

As the Claims Manager, you will also be responsible for leading several direct reports, which includes:

  • Formulating plans and managing the execution of all Claims Administration and Flood Disaster Response (FDR) processes
  • Coaching, training, and inspiring members of the Claims Administration and FDR Team
  • Documenting performance metrics and conducting performance evaluations
  • Preparing operational reports and activity summaries
  • Ensuring quality control over deliverables, work products, and reports
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years in operations or business service management
  • A minimum of 3 years in personnel management
  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • A demonstrated background with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) with at least 5 years of experience
  • If not ANFI certified, a commitment to obtaining ANFI certification within the first 6 months
  • Exceptional skills in customer relationship management
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Highly organized, energetic, creative, and a collaborative team player
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance
  • Completion of the NFIP course series through EMI within the first 30 days
  • Capability to complete EOD high
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management certification (e.g., PMP)
  • A robust background in Property & Casualty insurance, with a willingness to learn NFIP business processes
  • Experience with leading P&C insurance software systems such as Guidewire, Duck Creek, Majesco, or Insurity
  • Familiarity with Agile project management methodologies
  • Hands-on experience in business process improvement, lean methodologies, and/or RPA
  • Experience in preparing for process audits, including submission, remediation, and closeout
  • Knowledge of SharePoint, including forms and lists, as well as MS Project
