Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist, RRT to join our team in the Pediatric Department at the University of Chicago Medicine. As a key member of our Respiratory Care Services team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and support to our pediatric patients.

Responsibilities
  • Administer respiratory care treatments, procedures, and protocols under the direct supervision of department leadership and physician.
  • Provide patient assessment to determine cardiopulmonary status and implement appropriate patient care protocols.
  • Initiate and maintain emergent and non-emergent non-invasive ventilation and invasive mechanical ventilation per department policies and protocols.
  • Administer supplemental oxygen/medical gas therapy as prescribed by direct physician order or via established and approved departmental patient care protocols.
  • Administer intermittent or continuous medication delivery therapy as prescribed or via established and approved department protocols.
  • Properly assess patients during administration of such modalities.
  • Administer bronchopulmonary hygiene, suctioning, and airway care procedures.
  • Implement airway clearance techniques per physician order or under the guidelines of established and approved departmental patient care protocols.
  • Initiate and maintain non-invasive ventilation procedures on an emergent and non-emergent basis.
  • Provide ventilator management and appropriate hemodynamic monitoring/reporting of patient parameters.
  • Perform Arterial Blood Gas analysis per hospital, department, and accrediting agency guidelines and standards of practice.
  • Provide patient transport within the facility when patients are transported to other areas on oxygen delivery systems, mechanical ventilators, etc.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved and accredited Respiratory Care Program (at least two years in duration).
  • Diploma or Certificate of Completion and Associate's Degree from an accredited academic body.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by The National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Licensed by The State of Illinois as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare provider certification (American Heart Association).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification; PALS Certification; or ACLS Certification preferred, depending upon patient care area assigned and the primary patient populations served.
