Cafeteria Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cafeteria Helper to join our team at I-KAN Area Schools Application Consortium. As a Cafeteria Helper, you will play a vital role in supporting our food service program by preparing and serving food, receiving payments, and maintaining food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.

• Prepare and serve food according to standardized recipes and established food preparation procedures.
• Assist in the receiving of food items and/or supplies and place them in designated areas.
• Inspect kitchen area daily to assure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation requirements and regulations.
• Clean, organize, and maintain equipment and facilities.
• Operate point of sale terminal during meal periods, as assigned.
• Assist in the preparation, cooking, and serving of food according to standardized recipes and established food preparation procedures.
• Attend in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
• Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, effective work ethic, and customer service.
• Work effectively as part of a team, establishing a good working environment and productive working relationships with fellow employees.

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Minimum 6 months paid or unpaid experience in a kitchen, preferably in a school district.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to see and hear within normal ranges with correction.
• Hold a current Illinois Food Services Manager Sanitation Certification.
• Working knowledge of health and safety, sanitation, and maintenance rules and regulations as they relate to non-commercial/school food service establishments, kitchens, and equipment.
• Working knowledge of State and Federal National School Lunch and Breakfast program guidelines and regulations.

The Cafeteria Helper will work in a fast-paced kitchen environment with frequent interruptions. The ability to work independently with little direction and manage multiple tasks is essential. The position requires standing for long periods, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 35 pounds, and working with a variety of cleaning agents.
