Job Title: Nurse Intern

Located in Longwood, Florida, Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital is a comprehensive medical, surgical and behavioral health facility with 126 acute-care beds. Our hospital provides a full range of outpatient services, including diagnostic and interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, laboratory, surgery, MRI, psychotherapy services and hyperbaric oxygen therapy for wound care.

Job Summary

As a Nurse Intern, you will have the opportunity to work in our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Med / Tele Unit, providing care to patients requiring intermediate levels of monitoring and intervention. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care and monitor and manage patients with complex medical conditions.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide Routine Treatments and Interventions: Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health.
  • Perform Advanced Skills: Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as:
    • Nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal
    • Wound irrigation
    • Complex dressing change without packing of wounds
    • Maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy)
  • Perform Increase or Continuous Visual Observation: Performs increase or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients as assigned.
  • Assist Patients with Hygiene, Mobility, and Nutritional Needs: Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
  • Maintain Safety and Security: Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Utilize the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist: Utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist with change of staff or transfer of care as part of handoff for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients.
  • Assure Patient Privacy, Rights, and Confidentiality: Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
  • Follow Standard Precautions: Follows standard precautions. Adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.
  • Communicate Patient Information: Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient's condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participate in Handoff Report and Purposeful Hourly Rounding: Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding on patients.
  • Document Information: Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines.
  • Transport and Assist Patients: Transports and assists patients through the admission and discharge process. Transports Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients to diagnostic testing and procedures.
  • Maintain a Safe and Clean Environment: Maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Provide Exceptional Service and Care: Provides exceptional service and care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.
  • Transport and Deliver Items: Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products and medications throughout the facility.
  • Receive and Process Incoming Calls: Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls and guest requests.
  • Maintain Compliance: Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintain Compliance with Policies and Procedures: Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Nursing Student: Nursing student currently enrolled in a nursing program at a college or university.
  • Successful Completion of Fundamentals Nursing Course: Successful completion of fundamentals nursing course.
  • Proof of Continued Enrollment: Proof of continued enrollment in a pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed one year.
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider Certification: Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
