Staff Archaeologist

Merjent, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Archaeologist to join our team. As a key member of our cultural resource group, you will be responsible for conducting, overseeing, and directing archaeological field investigations, implementing field procedures established by Merjent.

• Conduct initial project reviews for client and project manager requests.
• Perform pedestrian walkover surveys, controlled surface surveys, and hand excavations (shovel testing) as needed.
• Maintain accurate field records and paperwork.
• Direct archaeological site documentation and ensure accurate digital recordation of survey data using Trimble R1 and iPad with ArcGIS and AGO.
• Author reports, agency letters, and other documents as required.
• Ensure overall safety of the field crew and adherence to project safety protocols.
• Coordinate project needs between project managers and clients with the rest of the cultural resource group.

• Graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related science required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar leadership capacity conducting pedestrian survey and evaluative site testing fieldwork.
• Knowledge of state-specific cultural resource guidelines, particularly in North Dakota and surrounding states.
