APC Roles
EPPA offers two tracks for Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs): one for new graduates and another for experienced APCs. New graduates are offered a position in our APC-T program, which includes 12 months of training. After completing the program, they will move to an experienced APC role with the skillset to work in an emergency department and/or Urgency Room. Experienced APCs will slot directly into their pre-determined practice and work with a team of success-driven healthcare professionals.

Job Summary
EPPA Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners serve as integral members of a multidisciplinary team providing excellence in emergency medical care. They work in a variety of treatment areas, including the Emergency Department, Fast Track, and The Urgency Room. Their responsibilities include coordinating care with consultant services, recommending follow-up care, facilitating referrals, and participating in continuous quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides health care services to patients under the supervision of a physician
  • Examines patients and performs comprehensive physical examinations
  • Compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests and interprets test results
  • Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, and wound care
  • Develops and implements patient management plans and records progress notes
  • Prescribes, administers, and dispenses drugs, controlled substances, and medical devices
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens
  • Createss and maintains patient records
  • Cares for and communicates with patients, family members, co-workers, and other medical professionals

Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Completion of an accredited physician assistant or nursing practitioner program
  • Current licensure with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice or Minnesota Board of Nursing
  • Current ACLS, ATLS, and BLS certification
  • For practicing APCs: Fellowship trained and/or 2+ years of experience working as an APC in a tertiary, high-volume hospital emergency department
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple clinical tasks
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, responsibility, and ethical practice
