Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse LPN Emergency Department Specialist provides high-quality patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This role requires a strong foundation in adult and older adult patient care, with a focus on emergency department settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care, including vital sign measurements, medication administration, and wound care.
  • Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed patient records.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Practical Nursing and current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nurses.
  • At least one year of LPN experience, with a preference for recent experience in emergency department settings.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification and unit-specific certifications as required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations.

Working Conditions:

The Licensed Practical Nurse LPN Emergency Department Specialist works in a dynamic and challenging environment, with potential exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials. Regular exposure to physical and verbal abuse by patients is also a possibility. The role requires the ability to work on rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, and may involve working on other units to provide adequate staffing.

Physical Requirements:

The position requires standing, sitting, bending, and walking for extended periods, with heavy lifting and carrying of up to 100 pounds. The role also requires appropriate listening and speaking skills to converse with patients, staff, visitors, and physicians.
