Position Overview

A.T. Still University's Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) is in search of dedicated full-time faculty members specializing in Periodontics at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This role is based on the Mesa, Arizona campus.

Key Responsibilities:

+ General Duties: Engage in teaching, research, community service, and patient care to support the mission and objectives of ASDOH and ATSU. Foster an environment that values respect, collaboration, diversity, social justice, and a humanistic approach to education.

+ Teaching Responsibilities: Provide preclinical and clinical instruction as a Periodontist within ASDOH clinics. Deliver lectures, seminars, and hands-on training focused on Periodontics, including advanced implant surgical techniques.

+ Service Engagement: Actively participate in committees, faculty governance, professional organizations, community outreach, and continuing education initiatives.

+ Patient Care: Deliver direct patient care in ASDOH Clinics, ensuring efficient clinic operations and supporting student/resident education while prioritizing patient welfare.

+ Research and Scholarship: Develop and maintain scholarly activities and research in the field of expertise, aligned with the annual workload expectations.

Specific Duties:

+ Supervise predoctoral dental students in both simulation and patient care activities, particularly in the area of Periodontics. Provide clinical oversight for ASDOH residents, including treatment planning and direct patient care in collaboration with student providers and specialty faculty.

+ Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum, ensuring integration of Periodontics with other predoctoral courses, including behavioral, biomedical, and clinical sciences.

+ Maintain accurate documentation of student performance and progress towards competency; review and approve electronic health record documentation in both clinical and simulation settings.

+ Collaborate with the Director of Periodontics and relevant administrators to establish and enforce protocols related to curriculum responsibilities, clinic policies, and ensure compliance with safety and supervision standards.

Qualifications:

+ A Doctorate in Dental Surgery (DDS) is required.

+ Strong communication, problem-solving, crisis management, and organizational skills are essential, along with high emotional intelligence and professionalism.

+ Candidates should demonstrate self-direction, initiative, and a commitment to lifelong learning and critical thinking.

+ Extensive knowledge and surgical expertise in Periodontics and dental implant surgery are required, along with the ability to serve as a clinical faculty instructor.

+ Board certification by the American Board of Periodontology is mandatory.

+ A minimum of three years of clinical experience post-periodontics residency is preferred.
