Job Summary

As a Sterile Processing Technician at Memorial Hermann Health System, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by preparing and packaging surgical instruments and equipment for sterilization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately handle and care for instruments and equipment, including selection of cleaning agents and lubricants, examination for function, and preparation for sterilization.
  • Identify, document, and report equipment and tools in need of repair and ensure maintenance is completed.
  • Organize, prepare, assemble, and sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies according to hospital and medical facility standards of sterilization.
  • Correctly peel-pack supplies/instruments, wrap instruments for sterilization, and inspect each instrument for use, function, completeness, and cleanliness.
  • Load, monitor, operate, and maintain different types of cleaning and sterilization equipment and machinery accurately and safely.
  • Assist in maintaining records of all equipment and supplies, ordering of supplies as needed, and monitoring quality control and infection control standards.
  • Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in Sterile Processing preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in sterile processing department or certificate of completion from a sterile processing course.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English language.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver supplies and equipment in conjunction with others in order to perform job functions.
  • Ability to perform basic computer skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
