About the Position

This is a paraprofessional nursing role under the Gallatin Rest Home Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses Bargaining Unit.

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Director of Nursing, this position performs various nursing services for patients in a residential setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise Certified Nurse Aides, including performance appraisals, personnel problems, and providing guidance and training.
  • Administer medications, observe and report on resident conditions, and provide basic care and personal hygiene assistance.
  • Take and record resident body temperature, pulse, and respiration rates, and report unusual symptoms to the physician or supervising nurse.
  • Assist with feeding residents who cannot feed themselves and record food and fluid intake.
  • Maintain medical charts and logs, and assist the health team in evaluating resident needs and implementing treatment programs.
Other Duties

The position may also require performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor, such as coordinating special projects and events, attending meetings and special events, and participating in continuing education and training.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need knowledge of practical nursing principles, practices, and methods, as well as the physical and emotional needs of aged and handicapped individuals. You should also be able to react well in emergency situations, communicate effectively both in writing and verbally, and maintain accurate medical charts and records.

Physical Abilities

The work requires excessive standing, walking, and other physical exertion, including but not limited to reaching, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, pushing, and pulling. The position must be able to safely and correctly use nursing facility devices such as gait belts and mechanical equipment for lifting, pulling and turning residents who may range in weight from less than 80 pounds to over 300 pounds.

Work Environment

The work is performed in a nursing facility, involving risk of infection or exposure to bodily fluids, which requires special safety precautions.

Compensation

The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
