Overview

The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a Nutritional Services Supervisor to oversee the operations within the Nutrition and Food Services department. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage all aspects of food production and service, which includes food preparation, nourishment delivery, tray retrieval, and addressing any issues that may arise in relation to food service on the patient floors.

Key Responsibilities

The Nutritional Services Supervisor will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Overseeing all facets of food production and service, ensuring quality in food preparation, nourishment delivery, and tray retrieval while engaging with ward personnel to resolve any food service-related issues.
  • Receiving and inspecting food deliveries, and requisitioning necessary supplies for various food service areas.
  • Ensuring comprehensive sanitation practices are maintained throughout the Nutrition and Food Services.
  • Conducting menu planning meetings, completing scheduling assignments, recording temperatures, and finalizing tray assembly reports.
  • Monitoring procedures within the Diet Communication Center to ensure compliance.
  • Preparing performance evaluations for all staff under direct supervision.
  • Providing close supervision of employee performance, addressing any work-related issues collaboratively.
  • Tracking employee attendance and punctuality, offering guidance as needed.
  • Adjusting assignments to ensure completion of work tasks.
  • Promoting customer service principles and fostering a supportive environment for quality service delivery.
  • Encouraging positive interactions among staff and patients to enhance service quality.
  • Ensuring adherence to policies and procedures that support the overall effectiveness of the Medical Center.
  • Facilitating effective communication across departments to ensure timely information flow.
  • Managing the operational unit effectively by ensuring that staff fulfill their assigned duties and that all necessary food supplies are available for meal service.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the responsibilities and performance standards for Food Service Workers at various levels.
  • In emergency situations, prioritizing daily operations and utilizing available staff efficiently.
  • Establishing quality and quantity standards, instructing staff on complex tasks, and reviewing work to ensure compliance with portion sizes and serving standards.
  • Adapting work plans and methods as necessary to optimize efficiency and control costs.
  • Participating in training initiatives to instruct staff on the proper use and maintenance of food service equipment, as well as sanitation practices.
  • Providing guidance on dietary modifications and assisting lower-grade employees in tray assembly decisions.
  • Maintaining inventory of food service supplies and conducting quality assurance checks in line with established protocols.
  • Supervising the delivery and collection of patient trays, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Overseeing the tray assembly process and ensuring all sanitation standards are met.
Work Schedule: Rotating shifts and days off

Physical Requirements: The role requires light to moderate physical effort, with occasional heavy lifting and continuous standing and walking.
