Job Summary:

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is seeking a highly skilled Data Systems Engineer to design, develop, and test advanced data systems that support the building of artificial intelligence/machine learning models. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering and application design, with experience in systems design, development, database development, testing, and integration methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop advanced data systems that support the building of artificial intelligence/machine learning models.
Identify, integrate, and cleanse data source information for processing.
Document and communicate opportunities for improvement identified in the data, such as scalability or quality concerns.
Provide thought leadership on a variety of initiatives, including mentoring Data Engineers and interns, and engaging in reviewing code and other deliverables for additional projects.
Write and refine code to ensure performance and reliability of data extraction and programming, implement data structures using best practices for data modeling and visualizations, and produce comprehensive and usable dataset documentation and metadata.
Take part in training to increase skill set and technical capabilities to better serve the needs of the business.
Share training materials and communicate knowledge gained to other Data Engineering staff to maximize knowledge transfer.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field of study.
Three (3) years of experience as a Big Data Cloud Support Engineer, Big Data Developer/Data Analyst, Data Analyst, or closely related occupation.
At least 3 years of experience in data engineering and application design, systems design, development, database development, testing, and integration methodologies, big data such as Map/Reduce, YARN, and HDFS, Databricks, query building such as PL/SQL, HIVE, Impala, and Spark, programming such as R, Python, C, Java, and Ruby, and visualization tools such as QlikView, Tableau, and Web FOCUS.
Designing, developing, and testing applications using proven or emerging technologies.

Working Conditions:

40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Remote work permitted.
