Job Title: Early Childhood Educator - Head Start Teacher

Job Summary:

The Early Childhood Educator - Head Start Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising all classroom activities. The educator makes social service referrals and shares responsibility for parent involvement in the program. The educator works with other team members to support the goals of the program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Implement Educational Programming: Develop and implement educational programming within the program philosophy and under all Office of Head Start Performance Standards for early childhood accreditation and licensing requirements to support the social/emotional (mental health) and developmental needs of each child.
  2. Demonstrate and Teach Child Development: Demonstrate and teach child development to parents, volunteers, and staff, and intentionally apply principles to programming.
  3. Plan and Maintain a Classroom Environment: Plan and maintain an integrated classroom environment and materials in response to the enrolled children and ensure organization, cleanliness, and safety in all classrooms.
  4. Analyze Observations and Assessments: Analyze observations and assessments to plan for each child.
  5. Write Individual Learning Plans: Write individual learning plans (ILPs) for each child based on observational notes, the developmental continuum, and parent input (include five objectives: social-emotional, first language and literacy, second language and literacy, cognitive, and physical development).
  6. Communicate with Children: Use developmentally appropriate means of communicating with the children.
  7. Maintain a Clean and Safe Environment: Assist with the maintenance of a clean, healthy, and safe environment.
Requirements:
  1. Education: B.A. or B.S. in Early Childhood Education/equivalent degree with experience teaching preschool-aged children preferred; OR B.A./B.S. in a related field including 30 ECE credits with experience teaching preschool-aged children required; OR B.A./B.S. in Elementary Education and 18 ECE credits with experience teaching preschool-aged children required; OR B.A. /B.S. with ECE Certification with experience teaching preschool-aged children required.
  2. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge and skills in the field of early childhood development.
  3. Knowledge of Regulations: Knowledge of Office of Head Start Performance Standards of Early Childhood, state and federal regulations pertaining to child abuse and neglect, and childcare licensing requirements.
  4. Knowledge of Community Resources: Knowledge of various service resources in the community and local resources, languages, and customs.
Additional Requirements:
  1. Background Checks: Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151, and NSOR required prior to an offer.
  2. Health Record: School Personnel Health Record (Form H) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
Working Conditions:
  1. Physical Demands: Sitting for an extended period of time.
  2. Lifting and Carrying: Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 50 pounds.
  3. Physical Abilities: Ability to kneel, crouch, bend, and reach to retrieve and handle teaching materials and supplies.
  4. Communication: Ability to speak clearly and distinctly when communicating with limited English-speaking customers.
  5. Hearing and Vision: Hearing clearly and adequate vision to perform duties.
