Position Overview

Position Title: Music Skills Specialist - Jazz

FLSA Classification: EX

Reports to: Director, HCD

Salary Range: $50,000 to $55,000, based on experience

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Role Summary

The Music Skills Specialist for Jazz is responsible for orchestrating schedules, actively engaging in student recruitment, crafting weekly lessons, and providing educational guidance across various areas of expertise within the Hartt Community Division (HCD). This role is pivotal in supporting the University's mission, recognizing that the effective execution of these responsibilities is essential to the educational journey of the students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lesson Preparation: Develops and delivers lesson plans, imparting subject matter expertise to students of diverse ages at HCD. Engages in student recruitment through school visits, sharing comprehensive information about HCD offerings, and conducting Master Classes for prospective students.
  • Student Retention: Enhances student retention by providing exceptional lessons that foster a sense of community, cultivate ongoing relationships with students and their families, and offer guidance on further educational opportunities within HCD.
  • Program Administration: Manages programs as necessary and appropriate to ensure a high-quality educational experience.
  • Class Scheduling: Designs class schedules and prepares instructional materials.
  • Community Engagement: Participates in recitals, concerts, workshops, and other activities that support the HCD program and its students.
  • Professional Development: Attends HCD meetings to stay informed about current events, programs, and pedagogical methodologies. Contributes to the development of HCD programs as needed.
  • Leadership Opportunities: Identifies and promotes performance and educational leadership opportunities for HCD students, organizing recitals and other events.
  • Additional Duties: Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree required (or equivalent experience)

Physical Requirements: Ability to intermittently sit, stand, and stoop. Requires good near and distant vision, dexterity in using equipment, and good hearing.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
