Position Summary
Key Responsibilities:
Role Overview
Under minimal supervision, the welder is responsible for joining metal parts using various welding techniques, including brazing and different arc and gas welding methods, to create or repair components for turbine jet engines such as vanes and shrouds.
Core Duties
- Set up and calibrate welding equipment, position components for welding, adjust current settings, select appropriate gases, and manage gas flow to achieve optimal weld quality.
- Conduct specialized welding tasks on turbine air-cooled vanes and related hot section components, adhering to technical specifications.
- Fabricate necessary gas backup and chilled bars to facilitate effective weld repairs.
- Utilize both gas welding and arc welding processes to join metal parts.
- Perform related activities such as thermal cutting and grinding as needed.
- Repair damaged components, fill gaps, and modify the size of metal parts as required.
- Assemble and secure components of fabricated metal products in preparation for welding.
- Identify and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area, contributing to team housekeeping efforts.
- Comply with all safety protocols, including lock-out/tag-out procedures, reporting safety issues, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and following established safety practices.
- Assist in training new team members.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) or Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding, or a minimum of 40 college credit hours in Welding from an accredited institution, including GTAW/TIG welding.
- Certification in welding components is required, in line with Quality Assurance Manual specifications, including passing periodic proficiency tests.
- Willingness to work overtime and on various shifts.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, including interpreting written procedures and completing documentation.
- Associate's degree or a 2-year certificate in Welding from an accredited institution, including GTAW/TIG welding.
- Demonstrated experience and a proactive approach to identifying process improvements.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Commitment to promoting safe work practices.
- Strong communication skills.
Compensation Level
HRLY AVIATION
This position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Final offers will be contingent upon the ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government, if applicable.
