Overview:

The Operating Room Materials Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the supply chain processes within the surgical environment. This position is pivotal in ensuring that all necessary materials are available for surgical procedures, thereby supporting the operational efficiency of the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily supply chain operations in the Operating Room, including the requisition, inventory management, and timely delivery of surgical supplies.
  • Analyze high-cost items to identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Supervise the OR Supply Chain Technician to ensure optimal performance and adherence to protocols.
  • Process requisitions effectively, confirming pricing, shipping terms, and delivery schedules to maintain a seamless supply flow.
  • Establish and maintain par levels for all surgical supplies, ensuring adequate inventory through the purchasing system.

Collaboration:

  • Engage with surgical staff, scheduling teams, and vendors daily to guarantee the availability of necessary supplies for scheduled surgeries.
  • Provide recommendations for new products and capital purchase initiatives based on operational needs.
  • Maintain knowledge of vendor contracts and ensure compliance with pricing agreements.
  • Keep accurate materials management records, ensuring all purchase orders, pricing, quantities, and vendor information are correctly documented.
  • Coordinate with accounts payable to resolve any discrepancies related to invoices and received supplies.

Inventory Management:

  • Receive and stock supplies appropriately, ensuring that storage areas are organized and maintained.
  • Work closely with Materials Management for the processing of repairs and returns, completing necessary documentation.
  • Conduct physical inventory counts periodically throughout the fiscal year to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain documentation to meet regulatory compliance standards.
  • Act as a liaison between Operating Room staff and Materials Management to address issues related to supply chain challenges.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in supply chain management within a healthcare setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and a commitment to customer service excellence.

Preferred:

  • Completion of a Surgical Technology program or equivalent clinical training.
  • At least 3 years of experience in medical purchasing or materials management within a surgical environment.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
