Position Overview:

Discover does not provide sponsorship for employment work visas for this role. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

As a Principal Full Stack Application Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and deploying robust software systems at scale. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will develop and sustain comprehensive solutions that align with our business objectives. Your comprehensive understanding of our product ecosystem will enable you to create sophisticated solutions and strategize the evolution of our technical landscape.

By championing innovation and best practices, you will tackle complex challenges and guide the team through the implementation process from inception to deployment. You will also manage and escalate risks and customer-impacting issues effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop solutions that address significant technological and business challenges.
  • Demonstrate proficiency across various contexts, including programming languages, security, automation, testing, and business domains, becoming a trusted resource for colleagues.
  • Engage in strategic technology discussions and understand their implications for Discover.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues based on your intuition and experience across multiple domains.
  • Mentor and guide technology communities within Discover.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related area.
  • Internal candidates must have a technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working within an Agile engineering or development team.
  • Familiarity with ReactJS, Redux, and frontend application frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or similar tools.
  • Strong grasp of object-oriented programming principles and the ability to write clean, maintainable code.
  • Understanding of software testing principles and methodologies, including frameworks like RTL and Playwright.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members.
Compensation:

The base salary for this position typically ranges from $104,000.00 to $175,000.00. Additional incentives may be included as part of a competitive total compensation package. Factors such as geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may influence the salary for this role.
