We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the Cardiovascular Institute of the South. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support to our cardiovascular physicians and medical personnel.
Key Responsibilities- Triage patients and assess emergency cases, obtaining and documenting medication lists, allergies, vital signs, patient complaints, and histories in the electronic medical record.
- Communicate concerns and problems regarding patients to physicians/providers, assisting with coding and risk management efforts by providing accurate and complete documentation.
- Remain available for physicians/providers, assisting with patient rooms and reviewing and completing orders, giving injections, providing samples, scheduling tests, and maintaining CDS protocols.
- Create and maintain accurate and complete electronic documentation, including patient medication lists, allergies, chart notes, and detail documentation regarding phone calls into the electronic medical record.
- Respond to phone calls from pharmacies, patients, physician offices, home health agencies, and other departments, entering electronic messages to assist with patient flow and document patient wait times.
- Perform blood work and assist with duties associated with Coumadin clinics/patients, explaining diagnostic procedures to patients and providing patient and family education when needed.
- Interrogate pacemakers and defibrillators, assist with pacemaker clinics, and review staff alert cards/insurance flags, performing insurance pre-certifications prior to testing when required.
- Assist in filling out forms, such as home health requests, attending physician statements, employee medical leave forms, work/school doctor excuses, and handicap licenses.
- Review and maintain accurate and complete documentation in the patient's medical record, adhering to the CIS Compliance Plan and HIPAA standards of privacy and security.
- High school diploma
- Licensed Practical Nurse by the state of Louisiana
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification optional
- Keeps work area neat and organized, reporting safety issues to team leaders immediately
- Works efficiently and manages time wisely, assisting other employees when all duties are complete
- Communicates any problems, difficulties, or concerns regarding job duties to team leaders
- Performs all duties without significant error occurring with any regularity
- Meets all deadlines and timeframes for completion of assignments
- Represents CIS in a professional manner at all times, demonstrating acceptable ability to interact with physicians, staff, and external customers on a professional level
- Exhibits a harmonious relationship with other CIS employees, working cooperatively to achieve standards of care set forth by the CIS medical staff
- Adheres to the CIS Compliance Plan, using best efforts to maintain compliance by following the CIS Corporate Compliance Plan, attending CIS compliance education, following medical documentation guidelines, and communicating concerns regarding compliance issues
