Position Overview: This role involves assisting in the strategizing, development, and coordination of financial analyses and reports. Responsibilities include operational and capital budgeting, auxiliary revenue tracking, statistical reporting, cost analysis, and other financial documentation. The position requires performing intricate and specialized tasks within the designated area of expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Financial Operations team in the formulation of the annual operating and capital budget for the University. Maintain relevant schedules and documentation associated with the budget process.
- Support the management of the University's long-term financial planning model by maintaining schedules and inputting, analyzing, and reconciling financial data.
- Review departmental budget reports monthly for accuracy and compliance with fiscal policies, and liaise with departmental managers regarding budget discrepancies.
- Reconcile and oversee various University accounts as necessary.
- Conduct detailed analyses and financial forecasts of departmental budgets. Prepare and compile journal entries, budget reallocations, and other analytical reports as required.
- Provide technical guidance and support to departmental staff on budget adherence and control procedures. Generate revenue reports for department heads highlighting budgetary concerns. Address ad-hoc requests for data and schedules from faculty and staff.
- Assist the Financial Grants Accountant in the organization and coordination of centralized accounting and financial reporting for University-sponsored research initiatives, including the preparation of annual and project budgets, revenue forecasting, and fund carry-over estimations. Review departmental financial statements monthly for accuracy and compliance.
- May be involved in producing and analyzing components of special projects or providing additional departmental and administrative support as needed.
- Participate in the onboarding of new employees and assist in training users on the effective use of the University's budgeting system.
- Maintain a roster of agency fund sponsors and student officers, providing reports to student organizations as required.
- Supervise student workers within the department as necessary.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline is mandatory.
- A minimum of three years of experience in budgeting or accounting is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with SQL or Microsoft Access is preferred.
- Exhibit a positive representation of the Financial Operations Department and the University.
- Demonstrate excellent analytical skills with the ability to resolve issues and make informed decisions.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding financial matters pertaining to students, staff, and faculty.
- Ability to adapt current computer skills to the University's systems, including Internet Native Banner, Husky Net, Argos, Anaplan, and other financial reporting tools.
- Capable of coordinating the implementation of solutions and analyzing accounting and financial reporting challenges.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines with precision.
- Effectively collaborate with senior academic and administrative personnel.
