Job Title: Production Supervisor Second Shift

At Horst Engineering & Manufacturing Co, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Production Supervisor to lead our second shift team in our high mix, low volume aerospace component manufacturing environment.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a multi-department team of CNC Operators and Set-Up Operators, ensuring the efficient operation of CNC machining equipment, and driving lean continuous improvement initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting security, quality, and EH&S audits to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with company and customer policies.
  • Coordinating time-off requests and ensuring adequate staffing levels across all disciplines of machine centers to meet production needs.
  • Motivating the team to meet daily, weekly, and monthly goals and objectives, identifying waste and non-value-added tasks that interfere with objectives.
  • Routinely measuring, monitoring, and publishing the performance of all team members, comparing results against department standards, and completing periodic performance evaluations.
  • Hosting daily GEMBA walks and serving as the primary conduit for all communications between operators and cross-functional teams.
  • Partnering with production control to stage daily and weekly priorities, ensuring jobs are completed on time, and productivity is sustained.
  • Setting up and operating CNC machines according to operation sheet instructions, providing technical support for the team.
  • Maintaining ERP data integrity, ensuring job punches match traveler packages, and reporting any discrepancies that could impact job quantity or delivery.
  • Developing and authoring standard work for the operation of production equipment, coaching and training teammates in best practices, and enforcing safety, departmental, and QMS policies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive career in the manufacturing of precision machined components in a regulated industry such as aerospace or medical.
  • Working knowledge of ISO/AS quality standards, basic OSHA/EHS safety regulations, and a commitment to adherence of company policies.
  • Advanced or expert machining skills in 1 or more disciplines, including Swiss lathe, multi-axis turning, turning, milling, or grinding.
  • Experience leading and managing a small team toward common goals, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A willingness to take accountability for self and team, driving and inheriting the collective results of a department or team.
  • Strong understanding of operational metrics such as first pass yield, efficiency, WIP aging, on-time-delivery, job cost, scrap rate, etc.
  • Strong computer skills, especially related to navigating ERP systems, job clocking systems, CAD/CAM software, and Microsoft products such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Physical Demands:

The successful candidate will be required to lift/carry 10-30lbs, stand, walk, manually manipulate, squat/kneel, bend, and reach above shoulder level.
