Job Overview

The Field Composite Material Technician will deliver high-quality finished products that reflect the expertise and capabilities of Southland Employment.

This position requires fieldwork, with hours determined by the Superintendent based on daylight availability and project requirements.

The work environment will frequently change, necessitating constant awareness of surroundings and potential hazards to ensure safety for oneself and others. Employees may need to operate under challenging environmental conditions and at significant heights using high-reach equipment and scaffolding.

Compensation: $22 – 25 / hr

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate expertise and craftsmanship in composite materials, carpentry, and metalwork using standard hand and power tools.
  • Utilize bodywork materials such as Bondo, wood putty, and caulk effectively.
  • Operate tools including spray guns, airless sprayers, sanders, and grinders.
  • Construct and repair thematic elements, such as rocks, employing a variety of materials including fiberglass, epoxy, and other resins.
  • Achieve installation objectives according to project timelines.
  • Conduct quality control assessments on completed work.
  • Adhere to all safety programs, policies, and regulations set forth by the company and applicable local, state, and federal guidelines.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills

Essential:

  • At least three years of experience working with fiberglass.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure down to the 16th of an inch.
  • Proficient in interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Mechanically inclined with a strong understanding of industry tools and materials.
  • Must possess personal hand tools suitable for fiberglass work.
  • Advanced knowledge of tools, equipment, and machinery relevant to the industry.
  • Effective communication skills, both friendly and professional, with team members and management.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Capable of taking initiative and prioritizing tasks effectively.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands outlined are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance or lifting devices.
  • Capability to walk, stand, hear, and see to perform essential job functions for extended periods.
  • Physical abilities include dragging, pulling, lifting, pushing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and performing repetitive motions.
  • Must possess agility and good balance, with a willingness to work at heights.
