Heavy Equipment Instructor

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Instructor to join our team at the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality training programs to students in the field of heavy equipment operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver classroom and field-based training programs to students in heavy equipment operations
  • Develop and maintain training materials, including lesson plans, handouts, and visual aids
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new training programs and curriculum
  • Provide technical assistance and support to students and instructors as needed
  • Collaborate with other instructors and training staff to ensure seamless delivery of training programs
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Four years of experience in heavy equipment operations, including experience on two or more of the following: aerial work platforms, backhoe, bulldozer, dump truck, excavator, forklift, front-end loader, maintainer, and skid-steer
  • One year of adult education and/or training experience
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ten years of heavy equipment experience in three or more of the following: asphalt distributor, backhoe, dozer, maintainer, excavator, front-end loader, skid-steer, forklift, aerial work platforms, crane, roller, and dump truck
  • Knowledge of and/or certifications in highway safety and traffic control
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects and/or wear personal protective gear during instruction
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions during instruction

Notifications

Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages
  • Classroom Instruction - 80%
    • Instructs courses and provides technical assistance when needed
    • Prepares training materials, training aids, and/or equipment prior to course
    • Ensures classrooms are ready for participants
    • Ensures concerned parties, points of contacts, host organization, agencies, are contacted and notified of schedules, locations, and times
    • Ensures participants have achieved terminal objectives of the course
    • Ensures training materials, training aids, and classrooms are secured upon completion of the course
  • Program Support - 20%
    • Ensures class documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Division Guidance, Agency and Contractual requirements (if applicable)
    • Assists the Training Manager/Coordinator with Customer Interactions
    • Assists in the marketing of Division programs and events to potential customers and students
    • Ensures requests for travel and post-travel claim documentation are completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Division and Agency guidance
