Key Responsibilities

  1. Utilize effective teaching methodologies to fulfill IEP objectives for students with special needs, adjusting strategies as required to enhance learning outcomes.
  2. Deliver instruction in various formats, including whole class, small group, and individualized settings, to accommodate the unique learning styles of each student.
  3. Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate student eligibility for special education services and tailor programs accordingly.
  4. Employ technology for efficient data management and documentation of student progress.
  5. Create and maintain detailed lesson plans that align with IEP goals, ensuring transparency by sharing an overview of educational objectives with stakeholders.
  6. Facilitate IEP meetings, collaborating with parents, general education teachers, and specialists to develop and review educational strategies.
  7. Monitor and document student performance data, providing regular updates on progress towards IEP goals.
  8. Engage with families to discuss transition planning and support for students' future educational paths.
  9. Adapt and modify general education curriculum to meet the needs of special education students, working closely with general education staff to track academic performance.
  10. Provide mentorship and guidance to support staff, enhancing their ability to assist students effectively.
  11. Conduct evaluations of support staff performance, collaborating with administration to ensure high standards of service delivery.
  12. Work collaboratively with educational professionals and families to create optimal learning experiences for students with special needs.
  13. Establish and maintain a safe and supportive classroom atmosphere conducive to learning, implementing behavior management strategies tailored to individual student needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Possession of or eligibility for a valid teaching certificate with a special education endorsement.
  2. Experience in developing customized educational programs.
  3. Proven ability to design and implement behavior management strategies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Prior teaching experience in special education settings.
  2. Experience in training and supervising educational support staff.
  3. Background in working with children with disabilities.
  4. Experience in educational settings within rural or remote areas.

Work Environment

The role is primarily conducted in a classroom setting, where the specialist will provide direct support to students, including assistance with physical needs and personal care. The position requires physical stamina to engage with students effectively.
