The primary duties include:
(1) Delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to adults aged 18-65 and seniors aged 65 and above, as designated by the ACOS of Primary Care.
(2) Evaluating Veterans using advanced clinical judgment and physical assessment skills to identify acute, non-acute, and chronic health issues.
(3) Ensuring the provision of safe, efficient, and high-quality healthcare within the department.
(4) Conducting initial evaluations, treatments, and consultations, along with documentation, in line with current VHA Directive and VHNIHCS policies on Emergency Medicine.
(5) For inpatient admissions, facilitating physician-to-physician discussions regarding the necessity for admission, including diagnoses, assessments, and recommendations.
(6) Demonstrating sound clinical and administrative decision-making skills that enhance the profession's reputation and contribute to the distinctive role of physicians.
(7) Regularly interacting with nursing staff, coordinating consultations and care, and facilitating diagnostic studies and therapeutic procedures.
(8) Engaging in vital roles such as patient and family communication, patient education, discharge planning, and coordination with outpatient providers for follow-up care.
(9) Ensuring a thorough hand-off to the oncoming physician to guarantee an informed transition of care; coordinating with admitting physicians and consultants to organize diagnostic and treatment plans for all patients pending admission.
(10) Maintaining appropriate clinical privileges to fulfill the responsibilities of the position within the Primary Care Service.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, afternoon shifts.
Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized.
Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): Authorized.
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of annual paid time off (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, and possible 5 days of paid absence for CME).
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% contributions by VA.
Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory.
CME: Possible $1,000 annual reimbursement.
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting.
Conditions of Employment
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship.
- Education. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensure and Registration. Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States.
- Residency Training. Completion of residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
- English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
