Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraeducator to join our team at Baltimore City Public Schools. As a Paraeducator, you will play a vital role in supporting students who require additional assistance in reading and literacy skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tutor individual and/or small groups of students in reading to help them overcome challenges and achieve academic success.
  • Participate in planned training and professional development to enhance your knowledge and skills in early literacy content, pedagogy, and best practices.
  • Use a systematic approach to collect, organize, and utilize formative assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
  • Provide instructional assistance to support student learning activities and reinforce skills in reading and literacy.
  • Assist teachers in monitoring and managing student behavior and classroom management to create a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Administer tests and assessments, observe and gather data on students, and assist in reviewing assessments and progress reports.
  • Discuss student observations and progress with instructional staff to ensure a collaborative and student-centered approach to education.
  • Prepare instructional materials, audio-visual aids, and reports as requested to support teaching and learning.
  • Maintain a safe, inviting, and organized classroom environment that promotes student engagement and motivation.
  • Perform clerical tasks, including correcting tests and work papers, maintaining attendance logs, and reproducing instructional materials.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • At least 48 college credits from an accredited college or university or successful completion of the MSDE ParaPro Assessment.
  • One year of experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of early literacy best practices and tiered literacy interventions is preferred.
