JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department is responsible for independently planning, executing, and assessing nursing care in various patient situations, adhering to established standards of care and organizational policies. This role involves providing direct nursing care, taking on educational and leadership responsibilities, and engaging in collaborative decision-making and quality improvement initiatives.

· Collaborates with patients, families, and the inter-professional team in nursing practice.
· Utilizes appropriate resources to ensure safe, effective, and financially responsible nursing services.
· Practices in a manner that promotes environmental safety and health.
· Is accountable for fostering and participating in the shared decision-making model of the NCH Healthcare System.
· Employs the appropriate triage assessment tools for adult or pediatric patients.
· Possesses monitoring skills including cardiac rhythm interpretation and hemodynamic measurements.
· Maintains certifications specific to the Emergency Department, including BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
· Demonstrates proficiency in the use and troubleshooting of Emergency Department equipment.
· Participates in the orientation of new nursing staff and serves as a mentor.
· Cross-trains in all areas of the Emergency Department.
· Is responsible for the care of admitted patients and the completion of inpatient orders.
· Ensures continuity of care by referring patients to appropriate follow-up services.
· Maintains an updated patient tracking system.
· Functions effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, making rapid critical decisions.
· Assists colleagues with their assignments and responds to departmental needs.
· Demonstrates flexibility in scheduling to meet departmental needs and is open to new ideas.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
For candidates with Emergency Department experience:
· Minimum of 1 year of experience as an RN in acute care is required, with at least one year in Emergency or Pediatric ICU.
· Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida.
· BLS certification is required from a recognized provider.
· ALS and PALS certifications are also required.
· ENPC and TNCC certifications are desirable.
For candidates without Emergency Department experience and new graduate RNs:
· Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida.
· BLS certification is required from a recognized provider.
· ALS and PALS certifications will be obtained during the fellowship program.
· A BSN is preferred.
· Candidates must sign a Fellowship agreement that includes a commitment to remain in the Emergency Department in a full-time position after training.
· Intermediate computer skills are necessary, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
