Grocery Store Associate

Job Summary

Maintain product levels and quality control in the grocery department. Ensure products are displayed in accordance with company standards and all regulatory food safety practices. Perform various customer service duties and promote sales-building practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain full stock conditions on grocery display racks and shelves.
  • Operate a pallet jack to unload product from warehouse trucks and reload trucks with return items.
  • Ensure dated product is stocked, rotated, or discarded properly if unsold.
  • Inspect product for quality and maintain quality control and food safety standards.
  • Collect empty cardboard boxes and other trash and place them into a bailer.
  • Scan items, place items on a weight scale, and key produce codes. Ensure correct check-out totals for customers and maintain accurate money counts in the cash register drawer.
  • Collect shopping carts and store them in the cart corral. Keep the parking lot free of trash and debris. Communicate with management about any incidents, actions, or concerns occurring on store premises.
  • Assist fellow partners and customers by responding to price check questions and exchanging and/or locating product.
  • Promote product sales through the use of suggestive selling initiatives.
  • Take precautionary safety measures when using equipment and work tools.
  • Provide a friendly and customer service-oriented attitude by greeting customers, answering questions, and bagging and transporting customers' groceries.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary working and shopping environment by adhering to company safety procedures. Comply with all company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to memorize produce codes and tender policies and procedures.
  • Ability to operate a manual and electric pallet jack.
  • Ability to count and calculate for the purpose of cash handling and sales transactions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (in written and verbal form) with customers and partners.
  • Ability to work well with fellow partners and promote a team environment.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.

Working Conditions

  • Work is generally performed in a retail store.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet, slippery, or damp conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to outside temperatures and weather.
  • Occasionally exposed to cleaning agents.
  • Quiet to moderate noise level.
