About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Avista Nursing and Rehab. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our maintenance department, providing exceptional service to our residents and staff, and maintaining a safe and healthy environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilities Management
    • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the maintenance department, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
    • Coordinate with nursing services to ensure that maintenance activities do not disrupt resident care.
    • Manage work schedules and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Administrative Functions
    • Perform administrative tasks, including completing forms and reports.
    • Assure resident safety and well-being.
    • Present a positive image of the facility to all customers.
  • Committee Functions
    • Implement recommendations from the Infection Control and Safety Committees.
    • Attend staff meetings as directed.
  • Personnel Functions
    • Assure that personnel are performing assigned tasks in accordance with established maintenance procedures.
    • Interpret department policies and procedures to new maintenance personnel.
    • Assist in the orientation and training of maintenance personnel.
  • Staff Development Functions
    • Participate in department studies and projects as directed.
  • Safety and Sanitation Functions
    • Assure that assigned work areas are maintained in a safe and attractive manner.
    • Assure that maintenance personnel follow established safety precautions.
    • Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to the Administrator.
  • Equipment and Supply Functions
    • Assure equipment and tools are cleaned and properly stored.
    • Assure an adequate supply of maintenance supplies is maintained.
  • Resident Rights Functions
    • Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
    • Assure that residents' personal and property rights are maintained.
  • Miscellaneous Functions
    • Educate yourself in the management philosophy of Seniors by reading, reflecting, and re-reading books, magazines, and other papers.
    • Work to continuously self-improve.
    • Lead by example; be a mentor for all employees.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Technical school education in HVAC theory and repair.
  • Experience
    • Thorough knowledge of HVAC repair, carpentry, electrical theory, plumbing, low voltage alarm systems, and department management experience.
  • Personal, Interpersonal, and Communication Requirements
    • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
    • Ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive criticism.
    • Leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise non-professional personnel.
    • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the program, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc. of the Maintenance Department.
Working Conditions
  • Works throughout the facility.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and may need to reschedule maintenance activities.
  • Involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions/circumstances.
  • Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc.
  • Communicates with maintenance personnel and other department personnel.
  • Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays, when necessary.
  • Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
  • Subject to odors, dust, disinfectants, etc. throughout the work day.
  • May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the potential exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
