At UNC Health Care, we are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures. Responsibilities and Scope

  • Prepare and stage the surgical environment/operating room (OR) for the performance of surgical procedures.
  • Gather, check, and open supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
  • Stage sterile surgical field with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for surgical procedure.
  • Assist with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field.
  • Assist the team members with gowning and gloving.
  • Perform manually dexterous tasks and assist during surgical procedures under the direction of the attending surgeon.
  • Prepare, label, and hand off specimens as appropriate.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal cleaning.
  • Assist other members of the team with terminal cleaning of the room. Assist in prepping the OR for the next patient.
  • Participate in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care.
  • Precept entry-level staff, students, and orient new colleagues as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from a Surgical Technology program.
  • Provides evidence of successfully completing a national accredited educational program for surgical technology and maintains an accredited surgical technologist certification credential.
  • National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting certification (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
