Overview

Covenant Health, a leader in innovative and caring mental health services in East Tennessee, is seeking a qualified Psychiatric Technician to join our team. The position is located at Peninsula, a division of Parkwest Medical Center, offering both inpatient and outpatient services for children, adolescents, and adults. Our hospital is situated in Blount County, with outpatient centers in Knox, Blount, Loudon, and Sevier Counties.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate individual to provide quality patient care as a Psychiatric Technician on our Unit E. As a member of our patient care team, you will be responsible for supervising and guiding patients in their daily activities, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, and documenting patient care in a competent manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide proper supervision and guidance in the daily activities of the program as part of a patient care team.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient environment.
  • Report patient complaints and/or changes in the patient's psychiatric and/or medical condition promptly to the Registered Nurse.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork used in the daily operation of the program and document patient care in a competent manner.
  • Implement emergency policies and procedures and ensure that emergency restrictive devices are available on the unit each shift and in good working order.
  • Participate in the training and orientation of new staff members as directed by designated organizational leaders.
  • Perform and document monitoring of patient activities on the milieu as well as any specialized observation needs.
  • Monitor vital signs, collect urine specimens, and assist patients with activities of daily living according to appropriate guidelines and policies under the clinical direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Serve as an extension of Clinical Services/Physical Therapy departments to deliver therapeutic activities.
  • Demonstrate competence in using small group dynamics, scheduled activities, and the therapeutic milieu to carry out the Treatment Plan for each patient as part of a patient care team.

  • Attend shift report and be prepared to share relevant information about the patients.
  • Accompany patients to other facilities for appointments, treatments, etc. as required.
  • Maintain all necessary certifications and complete all mandatory assigned education in the specified time frames.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and development sessions to maintain and enhance job knowledge.
  • Participate in facility committees and design/implementation of patient care initiatives as directed by the Nurse Manager.

Qualifications:

No minimum education or experience requirements specified; high school diploma or GED preferred.
