The Medical Transporter III EMT plays a crucial role in the safe and efficient movement of patients. This position encompasses all responsibilities associated with Medical Transporter I & II, along with the added duty of transporting patients to outpatient rehabilitation centers, nursing facilities, residences, and other hospitals utilizing an ambulance. The Medical Transporter III EMT actively supports Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve, particularly focusing on the vulnerable populations of Marion County, while exemplifying the organization’s core values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development, and Excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitates the transportation of inpatients to and from various diagnostic procedures and tests.
- Ensures safe transport of patients to rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, residences, and other medical facilities.
- Maintains cleanliness and operational efficiency of transport equipment; disinfects wheelchairs and stretchers after each use and reports any defective or broken equipment to the supervisor.
- Assists in locating and gathering wheelchairs as needed.
- Delivers Basic Life Support (BLS) medical transportation and care in accordance with established protocols, policies, and state regulations.
- Communicates effectively via required communication systems to provide clear verbal information.
- Ensures the safety and security of the vehicle and its equipment; collaborates with the medical transport coordinator to check and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment.
- Accurately prepares and maintains records, logs, and reports through departmental reporting procedures.
- Oversees and guides the activities and educational experiences of assigned observers and students.
- Actively participates in ongoing education and medical audit initiatives.
- Must possess Indiana Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Ambulance or obtain it within three months of hire.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must hold a current Indiana Driver's license with a motor vehicle record that complies with Eskenazi Health's driving policy.
- Must have current Indiana motor vehicle insurance.
- Preferred: Completion of EVOC Defensive Driving Course Certification within the first six months of employment.
- AHA CPR Certification is required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Epic systems.
- Exhibits excellent judgment with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple requests effectively and calmly.
- Basic English reading and writing skills are essential; fluency in Spanish is preferred but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with hospital layout, procedures, and equipment handling.
- Understanding of hospital policies and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively under emergency conditions and stress.
- Capable of driving an emergency vehicle under urgent circumstances.
- Skilled in coordinating emergency care with paramedics.
- Must possess normal use of limbs, eyes, ears, and voice for patient treatment and operation of sophisticated electronic devices.
- Strong verbal communication skills are essential.
- High level of medical psychomotor skills and cognitive knowledge is required.
- Demonstrates a high degree of accuracy in performing duties.
- Must have a satisfactory driving record and previous work history.
