Job Overview

Position Summary

The role of a Speech Pathologist encompasses the evaluation, treatment, planning, implementation, education, and demonstration of leadership to meet the needs of patients and their families. This position involves caring for a diverse patient population, including infants, children, adolescents, and seniors, ensuring that their physical and developmental requirements are met. The Speech Pathologist will adhere to established standards of care and oversee the practice of support staff to help achieve the functional goals of patients.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care Management
* Supervise supportive personnel (such as technicians and students) while being accountable for patient care.

Engage actively in patient and family team conferences.

Assess the need for follow-up outpatient therapy and provide recommendations post-discharge.


Documentation and Reporting
* Maintain accurate documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) that reflects a coherent flow of data, actions taken, and patient responses.

Identify and address the learning needs of patients and families, documenting these in patient records.

Communicate information clearly and appropriately based on the understanding level of patients and families.

Implement treatment plans and evaluate patient responses during therapy sessions.

Contribute to the development of individualized discharge plans that consider patient and family concerns.

Adjust treatment plans as necessary based on ongoing assessments.


Educational Role
* Serve as a resource for colleagues within the rehabilitation department, providing mentorship and educational opportunities.

Act as a resource for other departments and the community, addressing inquiries and offering educational support.
Patient Care Responsibilities
* Review patient histories and relevant data prior to conducting evaluations.

Evaluate and treat patients without requiring a physician's order or referral, as permitted by regulatory guidelines.

Assist patients and families in discharge planning.


Compliance and Safety
* Report any safety-related incidents promptly using the designated reporting tools; participate in all safety training programs; ensure a safe working environment and encourage others to do the same.

Stay informed and comply with applicable state and federal regulations and company policies relevant to the role.

Maintain current certifications and licenses as required for the position.

Complete all mandatory training and job-specific modules within the required timeframe.

Meet productivity standards set by the department.

Attend a significant percentage of departmental meetings and ensure familiarity with meeting content.

Respond promptly to new orders in accordance with departmental policies.

Ensure timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses; complete billing processes efficiently and according to established procedures.


Qualifications

Education
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology - Required


Licensure
Current state license in Arizona - Required

BLS certification (American Heart Association) - Required upon hire.

Maintain appropriate clinical competencies as assigned by departmental leadership.


Experience
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the specialty area - Preferred

In the evolving healthcare landscape, proficiency in technology and computer systems is essential for effective patient care. Familiarity with computers and basic software applications is expected.
