POSITION TITLE: Registered Nurse - Operating Room
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deliver exceptional patient care utilizing the nursing process throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases for surgical patients.
SUPERVISION: Reports to the Director of Nursing
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program
- Current Registered Nurse License
- Current certifications in BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Possesses thorough professional knowledge and skills aligned with recognized nursing standards and departmental policies, including the Patient Bill of Rights and AAAHC regulations.
- Evaluates the physiological and psychosocial health status of patients.
- Conducts pain assessments in accordance with policy.
- Completes comprehensive patient histories.
- Communicates pertinent information to ensure continuity of care.
- Documents information accurately in patient records, signing with the appropriate professional title.
- Assesses patient understanding and expectations of care.
- Identifies desired patient outcomes and establishes nursing diagnoses.
- Collaborates with patients and families to set mutually acceptable goals.
- Develops and implements individualized nursing care plans.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Responds effectively to emergencies.
- Adheres to legal and ethical guidelines as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and relevant policies.
- Exhibits accountability in nursing actions, demonstrating flexibility and sound judgment.
- Continuously revises care plans based on patient data.
- Ensures proper preoperative communication and documentation.
- Maintains aseptic technique and efficient turnover times.
- Verifies patient identification and surgical site in accordance with policy.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgical team during procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Standing: 66-100%
- Sitting: 0-33%
- Walking: 66-100%
- Lifting: Up to 50 lbs. as necessary
- Carrying: Up to 25 lbs. as necessary
- Pushing: Up to 400 lbs. with assistance as needed
- Climbing: 1-5 flights of stairs as required
- Bending and squatting as necessary for patient care
- Reaching overhead while providing care
- Visual and auditory senses must be adequate for patient care responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Primarily indoors (95-100%)
- Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, and noise from medical equipment
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided, including gowns, gloves, masks, and head covers.
