  • POSITION OVERVIEW
    • Under the guidance of radiologists and the Lead Mammography Technologist, conducts standard and specialized mammography examinations in line with departmental protocols; contributes to quality assurance and enhancement initiatives; fulfills the responsibilities of a Radiologic Technologist as detailed in the Position Description and Performance Evaluation.
  • EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology or completion of an accredited certification program in Radiologic Technology.
  • EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • 3 months to 1 year of relevant experience.
  • CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
    • Valid licensure to practice as a Radiographer in the State of Wisconsin.
    • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T) certification in diagnostic radiology (RTR).
    • As of January 1, 1996, all technologists performing mammography must hold A.R.R.T certification in mammography (RTR) (M) or be eligible for the registry and must pass the certification exam within 12 months of completing mammography training.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of employment.
  • SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
    • A minimum of six (6) months of general diagnostic experience is required, with training and/or approval from the Lead Mammography Technologist prior to independently conducting studies.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills; proficiency in reading, writing, hearing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
    • Operates all radiographic and ancillary equipment necessary for routine and specialized mammography procedures, including pre-surgical lesion localization; ensures radiation safety and identifies/report equipment issues.
    • Employs appropriate radiographic and positioning techniques to enhance image quality and reduce repeat films; must be capable of assisting patients on stretchers and wheelchairs; accurately labels radiographs and documents relevant clinical information.
    • For specialized procedures, prepares the examination room with all essential equipment and supplies; ensures consent/history forms are completed; prepares patients both emotionally and physically prior to the procedure and monitors them throughout; adheres to sterile/aseptic protocols.
    • Responsible for scheduling routine and specialized procedures, providing preparation instructions, and addressing inquiries; proficiently accesses, enters, and retrieves information from the Management Information System (MIS).
    • Receives and documents verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners specific to the services provided by the department.
    • Administers medications promptly and safely, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
