Overview

Texas Oncology is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician Senior to support our Ft Worth location. This role will involve working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist to perform technical aspects of medication preparation, record keeping, and inventory control.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pharmacy operations, with a minimum of five to seven years of experience in a pharmacy setting. Oncology experience is preferred, but not required. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing medication orders, verifying patient information, and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
  • Verify patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Check all orders for completeness of information and insurance approval.
  • Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, admix drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Calculate correct dosage volumes and maintain indigent patient drug program as needed.
  • Count controlled drugs weekly and maintain records.
  • Maintain current drug information and MSDS sheets.
  • Properly dispose of all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
  • Clean the hood daily and log and date all drugs being used.
  • Check drugs monthly for outdates and keep accurate temperature logs.
  • Maintain proper control documentation of medications, including lot numbers and quality assurance activities.
  • Complete inventory control of medications, order supplies, and receive and shelf medications.
  • Prepare labels, file, and prepare billing.
  • May provide direction and guidance to lower-level Pharmacy Technician staff.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong background in pharmacy operations, with a minimum of five to seven years of experience in a pharmacy setting. Oncology experience is preferred, but not required.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and will be certified as a Pharmacy Technician or have a State Pharmacy Board requirement. They will also have a strong understanding of department automation, data entry, and report generation.

Work Environment

The work environment for this role will involve direct contact with patients and potential exposure to toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and chemotherapeutic agents.
