Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Specialist to join our team in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of California Davis, School of Medicine.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical or specialized expertise in the planning and execution of a research project, staying apprised of emerging issues and problems, and maintaining technical competence in the designated area(s) of specialization.

The Specialist will be expected to provide leadership, facilitate teamwork, and develop collaborative relationships with colleagues, as well as supply input into the planning of research and educational programs.

This is a full-time position, and the resulting hire will be at the assistant rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with other research and extension personnel affiliated with research activities involving the problem and certain types of research on the topic.
  • Evaluate performance in research activities or in outreach activities as deemed applicable to the individual project in specialized areas.
  • Participate in the development of laboratory protocols, database design, specimen handling and collection, tissue processing, data entry, and maintenance of regulatory requirements.
  • Assist all members of the laboratory with maintaining daily functions, including ordering of supplies and lab safety.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field with a minimum of three or more years of research experience.
  • Four to six years in a similar, professional technical position.
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record for screening patients for eligibility into studies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in cell line manipulation (isolation, culture, pharmacological manipulation including clone transfection).
