Position Summary

This role is designated for a PRN position, where the individual will address staffing needs across various clinics within the region.

The Sports Physical Therapist will deliver outpatient orthopedic and sports rehabilitation services, primarily focusing on a pediatric demographic ranging from school-aged children to young adults. The ideal candidate will be proficient in managing the entire spectrum of professional services, from patient intake to appropriate coding and billing practices, adhering to legal and ethical standards as well as hospital policies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct evaluations and provide treatment for patients experiencing a variety of sports-related injuries and orthopedic conditions, including but not limited to musculoskeletal injuries, overuse syndromes, neurological issues, and trauma. The therapist will apply evidence-based practices tailored to the age and sport of the patient, ensuring:
  • A comprehensive understanding of developmental milestones in relation to athletic participation, whether competitive or recreational.
  • Utilization of behavior management strategies suitable for pediatric patients, aligning therapeutic interventions with the child's age and abilities, within a family-centered care framework.
  • Development of treatment plans featuring functional and measurable objectives, ensuring collaboration with families or guardians.
  • Implementation of the care plan utilizing various treatment modalities, including exercise, neuromuscular re-education, joint and soft tissue mobilization, taping, electrical stimulation, and thermal therapies as directed by a physician. This may also encompass recommendations for dynamic bracing or orthotics to enhance functionality.
  • Provision of education to patients and families aimed at optimizing function and facilitating a return to activity or sport, including the establishment of home exercise programs.
  • Adherence to the Standards of Care as outlined by the APTA and PCH Policies & Procedures Manual.
Ensure timely and accurate documentation in compliance with Joint Commission, state and federal regulations, and CARF standards, actively participating in Total Quality Management initiatives. Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within PCH and community resources to enhance the effectiveness of care plans. Engage in discharge planning, care conferences, sport re-entry discussions, patient and family education, and outpatient rounds. Foster and maintain professional relationships within the department, PCH, and the broader community, effectively interacting with physicians, families, and hospital personnel. This includes contributing to in-service training programs and supervising rehab technicians or students, providing input on their performance evaluations.
