ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The professional registered nurse in Inpatient Services RN CAP 1 serves as an entry-level position within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP).

This role is accountable for delivering and coordinating clinically proficient care, which includes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for a designated group of patients.

Responsibilities may involve delegating appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff, including but not limited to RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians.

As part of the kidney disease healthcare team, this position engages in decision-making, educational activities, leadership roles, and quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care outcomes and operational efficiency.


KEY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:


All responsibilities are expected to be executed in alignment with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, procedures, nursing practice standards, and applicable regulations.


Conducts essential functions under the supervision of the Supervisor, with guidance from the Educator, Preceptor, or in collaboration with another Registered Nurse.


Performs ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after treatment for assigned patients, documenting findings in the patient medical record, adjusting treatment plans as necessary, and notifying relevant personnel.

Evaluates and documents patient/family learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education.


Identifies variations in patient status and collaborates with the healthcare team for input, including but not limited to the Supervisor and the attending physician.

Ensures safe and effective patient care for assigned patients as prescribed for all modality-specific treatment procedures.

Assesses daily patient care requirements and collaborates with direct and ancillary care staff as necessary.


Initiates and coordinates communication with FKC and Non-FKC dialysis providers and contracted facility personnel to ensure continuity of care.


Administers and monitors prescribed intradialytic transfusions, documenting patient responses and notifying the physician and blood supplier of any adverse reactions.

Dispenses medications as prescribed, documenting medical justification and effectiveness.

Initiates and assists with emergency response measures.

Acts as a resource for the healthcare team, participating in staff training and orientation for new employees as assigned.

May provide specialized nursing care instruction to facility staff as required by contractual obligations.

May assist in an Outpatient facility on an as-needed basis.

Required to fulfill CAP requirements for advancement.

Performs additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

This position involves direct patient care, requiring heavy lifting, patient mobility assistance, and ambulation support. Equipment aids and/or coworkers may assist as needed.

Frequent, prolonged periods of standing are required, and the employee must be able to bend over.


Occasional movement of machines and equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. may be required, along with lifting chemical and water solutions weighing up to 30 lbs.

The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, featuring controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels.

Exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials may occur.


May be required to perform essential functions in other locations with similar physical demands and working conditions.

Daily responsibilities include desk work, computer tasks, patient interaction, and collaboration with facility staff and physicians.

This position requires travel to training and meeting sites and between assigned facilities.

Participation in on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be necessary based on program needs.

SUPERVISION:
Assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LVN/LPNs/RNs as a designated Nurse in Charge, contingent upon meeting all requirements:

Successful completion of all FKC education and modality-specific training for new employees.

A minimum of 9 months of RN experience is required.

6 months of acute dialysis experience is preferred.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
Current state licensure is required.

Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification is necessary.

Must meet practice requirements in all states of employment.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
Entry-level position for RNs with less than 1 year of Nephrology Nursing experience in the past two years.

A minimum of 9 months of experience as a Registered Nurse is required, with 12 months preferred.

6 months of acute dialysis experience is preferred.

Experience in Hemodialysis and/or ICU is preferred.
