About the Role:

The Surgical Technologist and/or Certified Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the operating room, preparing the environment and gathering necessary supplies for surgical procedures. This individual delivers instruments and supplies to the surgeon and other members of the surgical team during operations, and may function as a second assistant to the surgeon. Additionally, they assist in the proper decontamination of the room, supplies, and instruments after procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Operative Preparation: Prepare the operating room and gather necessary supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Intra-Operative Support: Deliver instruments and supplies to the surgeon and other members of the surgical team during operations.
  • Second Assistant: Function as a second assistant to the surgeon as needed.
  • Post-Operative Decontamination: Assist in the proper decontamination of the room, supplies, and instruments after procedures.

Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an OhioHealth OR ST Fellowship or graduation from an accredited (CAAHEP) surgical technologist school or equivalent military training is preferred.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required. ST certification is preferred.
  • Skills: Basic critical thinking skills, ability to anticipate surgeon needs, and effective communication skills are essential.
  • Work Environment: The Surgical Technologist will work in a fast-paced operating room environment, requiring attention to detail and ability to work independently.
