The Library Assistant Specialist plays a crucial role in facilitating user engagement within the library environment. This position involves direct interaction with patrons of diverse age groups at both the circulation and reference desks. Utilizing the library's automated circulation system, the specialist is responsible for managing the flow of materials and executing various administrative tasks.
In addition, the specialist addresses reference inquiries and provides reader's advisory support both in-person and via telephone, leveraging a wide array of resources including books, databases, periodicals, newspapers, and indexes, as well as the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) and the Internet.
A comprehensive understanding of the library's collections, services, and contemporary trends in library operations is essential. The role also includes the shelving of materials as required.Essential Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a broad knowledge base across various subjects, typically obtained through a four-year college degree; alternatively, an associate degree coupled with two years of relevant library experience; or five years of experience as a library assistant.
The ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented environment while managing multiple responsibilities is crucial. Flexibility to work during days, evenings, and weekends is required. Candidates must also successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background verification.Compensation: Minimum $13.00 per hour
Pay Grade 3, non-exempt
24 hours/week
