Position Overview:
As a vital member of the Plastics division, you will evaluate Tesla's existing manufacturing capabilities related to plastic processes. Your primary focus will be on crafting a strategic approach for the production and capacity of plastic components, ensuring alignment with both current and future product initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
- Integrate manufacturing insights into the design phase to enhance component design for optimal processing efficiency through molding and assembly.
- Assist in the planning of capital expenditures, timelines, and workforce requirements for new facilities and product lines.
- Provide innovative technical solutions while overseeing engineering subcontractors in the design, layout, and construction of new plastic manufacturing equipment.
- Explore, assess, and test new technologies in plastic equipment to drive advancements in production.

- Focus on unconventional solutions and equipment that have not been utilized in production settings to foster innovative product development.
- Oversee the commissioning of molding processes and equipment through rigorous factory and site acceptance testing.
- Collaborate with design and quality assurance teams to enhance part appearance standards.

- Utilize a data-driven approach to refine molding processes, ensuring they meet quality and production benchmarks.
- Define facility requirements tailored to plastic molding operations.
- Support all engineering builds while validating the scalability of molding processes.
- Develop and implement production process validation criteria based on standardized metrics such as cycle time, OEE, and MTBF.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of practical experience with plastic molding processes and equipment.
- In-depth knowledge of process variables in plastic molding and their effects on throughput, quality, and yield rates.
- Proficient understanding of equipment design, mold design, controls, and the setup and validation of robotic systems.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with expertise in statistical process control, design of experiments, and simulation techniques.
- Familiarity with Design for Assembly (DFM), facility design principles, and lean manufacturing methodologies.
- Capable of applying engineering principles to identify and implement non-standard solutions to manufacturing challenges.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal teams and external vendors.
- Comfortable providing clear technical guidance to engineering resources, including equipment vendors and suppliers.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision; willingness to travel as needed.
