Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough reviews of SDS and OBV medical records to ensure the accuracy of diagnosis and procedure codes, adhering to established coding conventions and guidelines.
  • Engage in routine coding assignments while following defined parameters and established protocols.
  • Utilize knowledge of hospital electronic medical records (EMR) systems, specifically Cerner, to facilitate accurate coding practices.
  • Abstract and assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and CPT procedure codes from patient records, ensuring compliance with reimbursement requirements and statistical data submissions.
  • Perform audits of medical records to verify proper coding and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide coding feedback and education to departmental leadership, enhancing documentation completeness and accuracy.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training sessions related to coding practices and compliance.
  • Collaborate with various departments to address coding holds and revenue cycle inquiries.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED: Preferred
  • Associate's or Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience: Preferred
  • Minimum of three years of experience in SDS/OBV coding and healthcare: Required
  • AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification: Required
