Job Overview

The Certified Traveling Phlebotomist is tasked with the efficient collection and documentation of patient samples. This role requires a professional representation of the laboratory while strictly adhering to HIPAA regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize daily tasks based on the urgency of fluid sample requests.
  • Verify patient identity and personal information through appropriate documentation.
  • Select the appropriate venipuncture technique considering patient demographics and health status.
  • Provide reassurance to patients to help them feel at ease during the procedure.
  • Identify suitable veins for blood collection.
  • Perform blood draws using sterile equipment to ensure safety and quality.
  • Guarantee the optimal quality and quantity of collected samples.
  • Confirm patient identity, billing details, and diagnostic codes before processing orders and collecting specimens.
  • Accurately document patient information on requisition forms and electronic lab orders.
  • Label specimens correctly and prepare them for transport or courier services.
  • Notify the courier service and laboratory of urgent sample pickups or deliver specimens directly to the lab.
  • Maintain a clean and organized collection area, including personal hygiene and equipment.
  • Ensure a minimum stock of 50 collection kits is available at each customer site for various specimen types and inform management when supplies are low.
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding staffing and customer-related issues.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality by following strict HIPAA guidelines.
  • Exhibit professionalism in interactions with clinic staff, patients, and healthcare providers.

Qualifications:

  • Certified and/or professionally trained phlebotomist with active certification for collections.
  • Completion of phlebotomy training courses with documentation.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in phlebotomy or specimen collection, with references.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook.
  • Familiarity with laboratory protocols and HIPAA regulations.
  • Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and multitasking abilities.
