Our Ark is a community-based nonprofit corporation that works directly with homeless street youth and young adults in Thurston County, Washington. The Street Outreach Leader (SOL) conducts outreach and one-on-one peer support with a team of 2-4 members.

Job Description

The SOL promotes an understanding of the risks associated with homelessness, drug use, and alcohol use, including hepatitis and overdose. They build non-judgmental relationships with young people, guide them to referral resources, and advocate for their care.

Responsibilities include overseeing outreach activities, ensuring volunteers are qualified to work with homeless youth, and maintaining a positive image with kids, volunteers, and local businesses. The SOL also coordinates food distribution and manages the vehicle's use within the program.

Essential Job Functions
  • Treat participants and team members with kindness, respect, and dignity.
  • Provide services and support free of judgment.
  • Contact and build relationships with participants during daily street outreach and at syringe access sites.
  • Engage with youth around housing resources and refer them to counseling, mental health, and medical services.
  • Distribute harm reduction supplies and provide preventive health education.
Qualifications
  • Personal experience with homelessness or extensive knowledge of issues facing youth experiencing homelessness.
  • Must be streetwise, able to think critically, and solve practical problems.
  • Must be comfortable approaching and engaging with a diverse population of young people.
  • Must have excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Must maintain strong confidentiality and boundaries.

An estimated salary range for this position is $25-$35 per hour, depending on experience level, based on the location in Thurston County, Washington.
