Pediatrics Department Chair Opportunity

We are seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Saint Peter's Children's Hospital. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership for the department, collaborating with hospital administration to drive innovative, cutting-edge pediatrics practice, teaching, and research.

The Chair will:

  • Enable a physician to run a successful department while continuing to work in clinical practice
  • Engage team members and our community, fostering an inclusive and valued environment
  • Provide visible leadership and mentorship
  • Demonstrate the value of diversity
  • Provide strategic leadership, direction, and coordination for all clinical, teaching, and research components of the Department of Pediatrics
  • Collaborate with medical and administrative leadership to meet and exceed the system's goals
  • Maintain the highest quality of medical care for the department while growing volume
  • Actively support and promote patient safety, continuous performance and quality improvement, risk management, and efficient resource utilization linked to evidence-based medicine
  • Create new clinical programs, provide effective mentoring, and evaluate and anticipate the department's future

Requirements:

The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. A minimum of 10-15 years of postgraduate clinical experience in the field, gained within a major teaching hospital or academic medical center environment, is required. Additionally, 5 or more years of successful and progressive leadership experience in a Medical Director, Division Chief, Center Director, Associate Chair, or Chair role is necessary.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to patient care and the mission of Saint Peter's Children's Hospital. They will be able to gain trust, credibility, and respect through open, honest, and clear communication. A personable and approachable demeanor, with a good listening skill, is essential. Demonstrated managerial and business acumen, with knowledge of the complex financial pressures facing health systems and healthcare delivery organizations today, is also required.

Education:

A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree is required. Board certification in Pediatrics and licensure to practice medicine in the State of New Jersey are also necessary.

Saint Peter's Children's Hospital is a state-designated acute care children's hospital, offering a full-range of pediatric specialized healthcare services for newborns and children through young adulthood. The hospital operates one of the largest, most advanced neonatal intensive care units in the country, and its state-designated Regional Perinatal Center is renowned throughout New Jersey for exceptional high-risk maternity and neonatal care.
