Scenic Carpenter

Schaumburg Park District is a renowned parks and recreation agency that offers a diverse range of recreational programs, classes, and events, as well as facilities, parks, and open spaces. Our Cultural Arts Department is home to an outstanding theatre program that hosts various productions throughout the year.

The Scenic Carpenter is responsible for executing the construction of all scenic pieces, ensuring a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. This role collaborates with the director, technical director, and scenic designer to create a set that enhances the characters and storytelling. The Scenic Carpenter will occasionally lead a team of community volunteers, ensuring safety is maintained. They will also effectively manage time to meet deadlines and ensure the set is ready for tech week and performances.

• Execute the construction of all scenic pieces with a focus on craftsmanship and attention to detail.
• Collaborate with the director, technical director, and scenic designer to create a set that enhances the characters and storytelling.
• Occasionally lead a team of community volunteers, ensuring safety is maintained.
• Effectively manage time to meet deadlines and ensure the set is ready for tech week and performances.

• At least six months of experience in scenic construction for theatrical productions.
• Proficiency in basic power tools and scenic construction techniques.
• Experience with drafting is a plus.
• Dependable industry professional with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work within budget constraints and execute designs in a safe and timely manner.
