About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative to join our team at Optum. As a Patient Access Representative, you will be the first point of contact for our patients and their families, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring a smooth registration process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet visitors and patients in person or via telephone, upholding excellent customer service standards.
  • Enter and update patient demographic and financial information, ensuring accurate and timely registration.
  • Obtain and verify patient applications and forms, confirming signatures and photocopying/scanning documents as needed.
  • Provide patients with financial responsibility information and collect patient liabilities, documenting amounts in the appropriate fields and balancing the cash box daily.
  • Collaborate with partnering departments to ensure all aspects of the patient's encounter are completed as needed.
  • Provide wayfinding instructions and assist with hospital information as requested.
  • Coordinate patient admission needs, bed assignments, and tracking boards as applicable.
  • Meet or exceed audit accuracy standards, working through worklists and error reports in a timely manner and seeking assistance as needed.
  • Maintain a safe environment, complying with Optum policies and procedures, and reporting and addressing environmental hazards and patient safety policy violations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 6+ months of experience in an office setting, customer service, phone support, or call center environment.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Windows applications.
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) with flexibility to work variable schedules, including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Influenza vaccination for the current flu season or commitment to receive the vaccination when available.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of registration experience in a hospital or medical setting.
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Working knowledge of insurance policies and procedures and patient care settings.
