Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Instructor to join our team at Career Systems Development Corporation. As an Academic Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students in a regular classroom setting, presenting lessons in designated subject areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and manage academic classes, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Help students achieve TABE gains, attainment in assigned subject areas, and/or HSD/HSE obtainment.
  • Meet department goals and objectives as assigned by the department manager.
  • Promote a high degree of discipline and motivation among students, maintaining a positive atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Document student records according to requirements, accessing and inputting relevant student data, including attendance, performance, progress, and disciplinary incidents.
  • Establish strong student-instructor rapport and utilize provided curriculum resources to develop curriculum through Educational Learning Plans.
  • Track student performance and achievement, recording attendance at the beginning of each class period.
  • Assess student progress and make recommendations for student awards as approved within the Centers student incentive plan.
  • Assist in completing necessary Job Corps forms and entering case notes at least once a month for each student assigned.
  • Follow security measures to ensure equipment, curriculum, tests, and supplies are secured and cared for, maintaining a clean and organized classroom.
  • Prepare reports, requisitions, and evaluations of student performance (ESP) in a timely manner.
  • Assist the manager during scheduled property inventory and monitor student progress to ensure students are making adequate progress and performing their own work.
Requirements

Qualifications:

Minimum: Bachelor's degree and certification to teach in the state where the center is located. (RO may waive if the center is unable to hire a certified teacher, but the candidate must actively pursue certification along an agreed-upon timeframe).

Preferred: One year of experience in a teaching capacity with disadvantaged youth.

Knowledge: Knowledge of required subject area, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, excellent organizational skills, CPR/First Aid Certification, ability to motivate and inspire students, and ability to effectively relate to student population.

Physical Requirements:

Frequently: Sitting, standing, seeing, hearing, speaking.

Occasionally: Walking, bending, stooping, squatting, flexibility.

Seldom: Climbing, lifting 50 pounds, carrying, kneeling, pushing/pulling, running, driving.

Environmental Demands:

Ability to operate office equipment, occasional work alone, 85% of time spent working and interacting with team and other departments, ability to read and write at a college level.
