Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

At Houston Methodist, we are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Labor and Delivery team. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide high-quality patient care to a diverse population, conducting nursing assessments, assisting with exams and treatment, and maintaining medical records.

Responsibilities:
  • Use therapeutic communication to establish relationships with patients, families, and the interprofessional healthcare team.
  • Contribute to teamwork by being aware of overall unit acuity, offering assistance, and responding positively to requests for help.
  • Implement staff education specific to patient populations and unit processes, coaching and mentoring other staff and students.
  • Develop, update, and communicate the plan of care, including discharge, in partnership with the patient, family, and interprofessional healthcare team.
  • Provide patient teaching based on learning needs, using appropriate resources, and incorporating planning for care after discharge.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Two years of registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure within 60 days.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Magnet - ANCC Recognized Certification in applicable specialty area.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
