Position Overview

The Adult Psychiatrist is responsible for diagnosing and managing mental health disorders. This role includes supervising Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, and social workers, conducting psychosocial assessments, creating treatment plans, and providing short-term, solution-focused counseling. The psychiatrist will also develop program content and lead activities aimed at enhancing the social development of patients while collaborating with the core PACT Team (Primary Care Provider, RN, and Medical Assistant) and other involved services to create effective patient care plans.

Key Responsibilities


• Conduct interviews to evaluate patients' social and emotional capabilities, identifying symptoms of various disorders.


• Order and perform diagnostic tests, interpret results, and provide follow-up care.


• Counsel patients regarding prescription medications and educate them about their treatment plans.


• Develop and implement patient management strategies to ensure continuity of care.


• Review patient records from external medical providers and collaborate on co-managed care.


• Facilitate individual, group, and family therapy sessions.


• Assist patients in developing social skills and improving family dynamics through group experiences.


• Address topics such as advance directives and organ donation in line with established standards.


• Maintain accurate patient records in VISTA/CPRS.


• Complete clinical reminders during patient visits.


• Collaborate with non-VA providers as needed, serving as a case manager when required.


• Provide health education to patients and families, focusing on self-management and wellness.


• Ensure confidentiality of veterans' information.


• Comply with all training and regulatory requirements.


• Strive for excellent clinical outcomes in accordance with VA guidelines.


• Deliver exceptional customer service to veterans and their families, both in person and via phone.


• Participate in outreach initiatives to support clinic enrollment efforts.


• Encourage patient enrollment and retention for appointments and follow-ups.


• Support new clinical and operational initiatives.

Qualifications


• Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree.


• Board certification in Psychiatry.


• Valid, unrestricted medical license in the state of employment.


• 1-3 years of clinical experience with adult patients.


• Current, unrestricted DEA registration.


• Credentialed and in good standing with the Veterans Health Administration.


• Certification in Basic Life Support and ACLS as required.


• Proficient in English, both written and spoken.


• Strong computer skills, including experience with electronic medical records.


• Positive and energetic attitude.
